Title: Western Chef and Dining Facility Educator
Summary: In this position you will be responsible for instruction of our current Chinese national staff in, Western practices regarding cleanliness, food preparations, and recipes. The applicant is expected both to teach the staff, as well as preparing meals for the foreign faculty. One chef will be given as an assistant who will learn all relevant recipes.
Location: You will be at an American-style University in Central China and with over 130 foreign teachers there is the unique opportunity to become a part of an incredible community. The location in Central China also provides many opportunities to get to know China in all its grandeur. From hanging out with students on campus to exploring historical sights in Henan Province to traveling around the country and beyond, your experience will not only define the people you interact with, but will also define you!
Responsibilities/Duties/Abilities:
— to share your knowledge of safe and clean food preparation procedures
— to share your knowledge of sanitary kitchen practices
— to share your knowledge of Western food dish preparation
— able to create a means to pass on the recipes and practices to future kitchen staff
— to share your knowledge of dietary considerations and healthy food choices
— to share your knowledge of efficient kitchen organization and food handling
— to create a second week of Western food choices for lunch and dinner
— to help develop healthier food choices (especially for breakfast)
— able to work within a limited budget and differing food choices
— ability to patiently share/educate Chinese nationals in all these matters
— to create a food labeling system to inform the diners of the ingredients in each dish
— to assist in the preparation and presentation of dishes on a daily basis
Time and Working Conditions:
— this position will be based on a 30 hour work week
— a minimum of 20 hours of 'in Kitchen' instruction and food preparation time in the Peter Hall Kitchens. See pictures: http://www.academicsinasia.com/food/
— additional working hours/opportunities will be considered as OT and compensated accordingly
— Language and cultural courses will be made available to you to assist you
— Monday to Friday(Weekends and hours at your discretion)
— Possible opportunities to teach college students in Western food preparation and to work in various other venues
— You will have complete access to the Full kitchen and dining facilities
— A clear authority structure, and who you answer to and how you are evaluated
— Complete access to all related food service issues, including but not limited to: ordering
practices, supply sources, budget, food sources, regulations,

Atmosphere/Job Conditions:
— You will be working at an American influenced university in the heart of China

— You will be working with a small staff (5 to 10) of Chinese nationals
— You will be working in a decent facility, but not to U.S standards
